1.1 Who Can Become a DJ?
Any student, former student or faculty member can broadcast on mercer radio.

1.2 Where and when do you meet?
Glad you asked :D The general staff meets on Thursdays at 6:00pm at the Stetson MAC lab. All are welcome. See you there!

1.3 Is There a Facebook Page?
There is indeed! Located at http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=7329484590

1.4 What programs are on and when?
You can view program listings on the main site and the calander site located at: http://radio.mercer.edu/calendar/index.html

1.5 What kind of station is Mercer Radio?
Mercer Radio is an Internet-only streaming radio station.

1.6 What kind of format will Mercer Radio be? What kind of music will we hear?

The station's format - the kind of music that will be played, etc. - is determined by the students that become part of Mercer Radio. Other factors will also contribute to final format: the mission statement, desires & tastes of listeners, the station's staff, and even the ability to generate revenue from advertisers or sponsors. All this is a round-about way of saying that you decide on the format.

1.7 How much time does a DJ dedicate?

In the Studio, we ask DJs to host a show, once a week. Outside of the Studio, we ask DJs to dedicate 10-30 minutes in a general staff meeting on thursdays. Whether or not you dedicate more time outside of the Studio to make your show better is up to you. Some people feel they need more time to fine tune, while others can just come in and get going.

1.8 Will DJs be trained?

Yes! Before you go on the air, you will need to go through a training program and shadow or assist a more experienced DJ or senior staff member.

1.9 How much do DJs get paid?

DJs are volunteers. Because there are so many volunteers, and because we have little funding to work with, DJs are not paid. As the station grows, we may be able to pay our DJs in the future - but for now, please do not apply if you need payment.

2.0 Can DJs get University credit for DJing?
Yes we do offer one credit hour in the CTA department. One would have to contact a the station advisor or station manager to discuss this further.

2.1 Do DJs have to do music shows?
No. We take DJs for music, talk, educational, sports, and news shows. Or, if you have other ideas, let us know. We like creative people!

2.2 Does Mercer Radio have music we can play as a DJ?

Mercer Radio has a limited but growing music selection. If you have music you would like to donate (must be original CDs, not burned copies), contact the Program Director (). This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

2.3 How do I submit music to be considered for airplay?

Mercer Radio accepts music submissions from anyone with recordings. If you’re an unsigned band, a small label, a major label or just a few kids playing around in the basement - if you play good music, we’ll give it a listen and consider it for airplay. For more info contact the Program Director (http://mercerradio.mybb3.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6).

2.4 What can and can’t DJs play on the air?

As far as show topics and music selection goes, radio staff , the station's mission, statement, listeners and FCC guidelines determine show types, genres and even specific songs that may be played. However, we want to make sure that DJs are given as much freedom of expression and creative license within the extent of the applicable state and federal laws and rules of the University. This is, after all, what college radio is all about. For specifics, contact the General Manager or Program Director(http://mercerradio.mybb3.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6)

2.5 Can DJs have guests or take calls over the air?

If a DJ wishes to have a guest or guests (for their show or related to it), they must first obtain permission from the Program Director. Also, we do have the ability to take calls live on the air. Try it - call **********

2.6 Can Mercer Radio host live bands or other live events?

We do have that capability. If you are interested in being a DJ and having live music on your shows, please contact the General Manager or Program Director after your training. Mercer Radio is already planning to host and broadcast forums on a broad range of issues, lectures, speeches, graduations, athletic events, student created radio shows, live and remote events, alumni events, local bands, podcasts - there are lots of exciting possibilities!

2.7 How many people are listening?

Hard to say. however, we are a global station with listenership in 5 continents, 14 countries and 70 cities. Or at least that was our last count...

2.8 When can I do my show?

DJs must schedule a timeslot with the Program Director. Almost all timeslots are 1 hours in length, although special shows can receive 2 or 3 hour timeslots. If we receive many applications, we want to accommodate as many of you as possible – then the majority of our timeslots will be 1 hour. Specific timeslots are under discussion and will be determined by a combination of factors: availability, staff needs, popularity and seniority, to name a few.

2.9 What equipment does Mercer Radio have for DJs to use?

Currently, we have MP3 capabilities, DJ style CD players, tape decks, minidisc players. We have a broadcast area and a production area. Our equipment is top of the line and completely digital. .

3.0 Will you air a Public Service Announcement for my organization/event/cause?

As a service to the community Mercer typically airs several Public Service Announcements (PSAs) every hour throughout the day. We do accept submissions for new PSAs. Since we record all of our own PSAs, you do not need to send us audio recordings. All we need is some information (e.g., a press release) or a script. Our PSAs usually run 30-60 seconds in length. Because of the large number of submissions that we receive, we can't guarantee that we'll be able to run your PSA. If your PSA is for a specific upcoming event, the farther in advance we receive the information the better. All questions, submissions, press releases, and/or scripts can be emailed to our Program Director at traffic@wnur.org.

3.1 How much does it cost to advertise on Mercer Radio?

If you'd like to support the station, perhaps you'd consider underwriting. There are benefits to underwriting (besides the warm/fuzzy feeling.) For more information, contact Mercer Radio's General Manager or promotions director (http://mercerradio.mybb3.org/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6)
