Mercer Radio Constitution

Statement of Purpose
Mercer Radio exists for two chief purposes. This non-profit, non-commercial station's primary goal is to provide a wide variety of music programming to students of Mercer University, much of which not traditionally available on Macon radio. Mercer Radio will also serve as an on campus promoter of activities relating to music, including concerts, dances and other traditional celebrations of music.

Membership
Membership is open to all students and faculty of Mercer University. All persons wishing to join must fill out a DJ application at the beginning of each semester and/or summer term. These applications will then be reviewed by the Personnel Director. In order to qualify for a DJ position, each applicant must complete an orientation of the station, along with a period of DJ training. Once one has successfully completed training, s/he must sign a contract acknowledging the rules and regulations of the station. One does not have to be a DJ to be a member of Mercer Radio (i.e. engineers, technicians), but one must complete training to be on-air. Non-DJ members must also complete training for their position in Mercer Radio. The Mercer Radio General Manager and Personnel Director reserve the right to deny anyone the privilege to be a DJ. The station must follow FCC regulations, thus, if the General Manager or Personnel Director find that a DJ shows disregard for FCC legal policy, Mercer University, and/or Mercer Radio, s/he will be denied the privilege of being a DJ or a member of Mercer Radio.

Officers
The members of the Executive Staff operate as a cohesive unit to balance the duties of running the station. Officers post a set number of office hours each week, and are expected to spend sufficient time attending to all of his/her duties. Each officer is responsible for overseeing specific branches of the station's operation, and can assemble committees to assist in his/her work as well as appoint assistants to aid in their work.

The General Manager acts as the leader of the executive staff. S/he has the final say in matters of programming, spending and policy, based on the recommendations of the Executive Staff.

The Executive Staff meets at least biweekly to discuss station operations and pertinent issues at a set time established at the beginning of the academic period. Attendance by all of the officers is mandatory at these meetings. The Executive Staff may find it necessary to close a meeting due to the nature of the items to be discussed. All members of the Executive Staff must be present to have a vote. It may be necessary to postpone a vote until a proximate time when all members can be present.
